The Department of Behavioral Health is dedicated to providing comprehensive mental health services to the residents of San Bernardino County. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive psychiatric assessments/evaluations and mental status examinations (MSEs) of adult and/or child and adolescent patients
  • Provide multi-axial diagnoses according to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) approved by the American Psychiatric Association
  • Develop and implement individualized mental health treatment planning for assigned adult and/or child and adolescent patients
  • Provide competent psychotropic medication treatment and other psychiatric treatments to meet the needs of assigned adult and/or child and adolescent patients
  • Lead subordinate Psychiatrists in their assigned clinics or oversee lower-level professional and paraprofessional staff, such as clinical therapists, nurse practitioners, and case managers
  • Assign and review work, train staff, write work performance evaluations, participate in the hiring process, and manage disciplinary actions
  • Perform related tasks as required

Requirements and Qualifications

Essential Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited school of medicine
  • Completion of a residency in psychiatry approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education
  • Possession of a valid Physician and Surgeon's certificate issued by either the Medical Board of California or the Osteopathic Medical Board of California
  • Possession of a valid Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) certificate
  • One (1) year of full-time experience working in a lead capacity as a licensed Psychiatrist within a public or private behavioral health or healthcare organization

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification as a Diplomate by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology
  • Excellent communication skills and experience collaborating in multidisciplinary treatment teams
  • Experience leading a team of Psychiatrists who work with the seriously mentally ill, eating disorders, under-served populations, and with adults, children and adolescents, and the forensic population
  • Fluency in American Sign Language, Arabic, Korean, Mandarin, Spanish, and/or Vietnamese
