Los Angeles Valley College is a two-year community college located in the heart of the San Fernando Valley, with a strong commitment to student success, equity, and social justice. Our Department of Sociology & Ethnic Studies is dedicated to providing a supportive and inclusive learning environment, and we are looking for an instructor who shares our passion for teaching, learning, and community engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Teach 15 hours of Chicano Studies courses per week, including evening, online, and/or split assignments
  • Develop and implement curriculum, course materials, and assessments to support student learning outcomes
  • Participate in department and campus committees, and contribute to the growth and development of the college
  • Maintain office hours, advise students, and provide support for student success

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Chicano Studies, Ethnic Studies, or a related field
  • Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students
  • Ability to teach a range of Chicano Studies courses, including introductory and advanced courses
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills

Desirable Qualifications

  • Earned master's degree or higher in Chicano Studies and/or Ethnic Studies
  • Advanced education beyond the minimum required, research experience, and possession of an excellent academic record
  • Commitment to maintaining a current knowledge of recent developments in Ethnic Studies
  • Experience teaching Chicano/Ethnic Studies in a community college or other college setting
