Senior Embedded Software Engineer

NETGEAR is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Embedded Software Engineer to join our Security Software Engineering team at the Bengaluru Engineering Center. In this role, you will be primarily responsible for developing full-stack software in an embedded Linux environment for home networking WiFi products, with a strong focus on platform security hardening features.This is a onsite role and requires to be in the Bangalore, India office 5 days a week.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop software features with a focus on platform security hardening.

  • Investigate and resolve security vulnerabilities in a timely and effective manner.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams—including technical project managers and software engineers—to integrate security throughout the product development lifecycle.

  • Use static code analysis tools to identify potential vulnerabilities in the codebase and implement appropriate fixes.

  • Research emerging threats, attack vectors, and mitigation strategies relevant to embedded systems and home networking devices.

  • Contribute to the development of security tools, frameworks, and automation solutions to enhance engineering productivity and ensure security compliance.

  • Maintain clear, detailed technical documentation and provide expert guidance on secure coding practices to other engineering teams.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 6 years of hands-on software development experience, with a strong focus on security.

  • At least 6 years of experience in WiFi or Networking product software development within a Linux-based embedded system environment; experience with OpenWRT or PrplOS is preferred.

  • Experience in developing security hardening features such as secure boot, secure storage, firmware encryption, and TrustZone operation is a plus.

  • Proficient in secure coding practices, defensive programming, and industry-standard approaches to secure software development.

  • Strong understanding of common vulnerability types (e.g., buffer overflows, code injection, privilege escalation) and mitigation techniques.

  • Experience using static and dynamic analysis tools for security validation.

  • Proactive, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
