Job title: Retired Teachers for Tutoring Company: Sylvan Learning Job description : Sylvan is currently offering a Sign-on Bonus at our Lake Zurich/Barrington, IL and Schaumburg, IL locations! We are hiring Retired Teachers as Part-Time tutors. We provide primarily in-person tutoring (some remote tutoring) for students K-12: Reading/English teacher Math teacher Early Elementary Reading Teacher Beginning Reading Writing/English teacher Study Skills teacher TestPrep (ACT/SAT) Teacher Teachers do not need expertise in all of the above areas. We schedule you to your areas of interest. Benefits: Focus just on teaching...no lesson-planning or administrative work Flexible schedule as we are open 7 days/week See the results of your work immediately, given our individualized programs For teachers who have taken an early retirement, a great way to re-engage with students Requirements: For Reading/English tutors: Education/Teaching Degree required or in-process. For Math tutors: Strong proficiency through Algebra 2 (Education Degree a plus, but not required). For TestPrep (ACT/SAT) Tutor: Strong ACT/SAT score (30/1400 preferred). Education Degree not required. Tutoring experience preferred. Strong communication skills and the ability to multi-task. Ability to make connections with students. Working out of one of our locations in Lake Zurich/Barrington or Schaumburg. Skills and Qualities necessary: Teach using Sylvan based programs Direct and motivate students during instruction Reward students for successful work Evaluate and document student progress Communicate student needs to our Educational Team Develop rapport with students and establish a fun, engaging learning environment Maintain a positive attitude and demonstrate enthusiasm for teaching and Sylvan Sylvan Learning Centers are the industry leaders in providing supplemental education to children in pre-K through 12th grade. We provide individualized instruction in Comprehension, Reading, English, Writing, Math and Study Skills. We also offer ACT/SAT Test Prep and STEM. We teach 7 days per week and require our teachers to work at least one of Saturday/Sunday, and at least one day during the week. We have extended teaching opportunities in the summer.
