The opportunity We currently have an opportunity for a Corporate Underwriter to join our North American Specialty Underwriting team working remote. This position provides technical expertise and underwriting support to varied business units enabling sound underwriting decisions and adoption of practices for multiple lines of business. This position assists in in the coordination of projects, processes and consultation on organization-wide projects which involve multiple departments. The Corporate Underwriter utilizes their knowledge of insurance, systems and processes to provide overall support of corporate underwriting functions. Some of the Corporate Underwriter duties include but are not limited to:
- Assists business unit specialty underwriters and UAs to answer questions and determine selection/ rejection and pricing of business by understanding the company's underwriting rules and guidelines, manual rating rules and insurance laws and regulations for multiple lines of business. (Property, Liability, Auto, Umbrella and Workers' Comp.)
- Conducts research, performs analysis, and assists with major organization-wide projects and/or potential issues for existing systems and or processes. Coordinates or assists with the development, testing and deployment of business, system, product and operational changes. Involved at some level throughout the entire life-cycle of projects assigned. Offers alternatives throughout the process.
- Develops understanding of interrelationships between various departments, segments and systems. Works closely with other departments including claims, actuary, product development, regulatory, state filing and risk control in an effort to serve the needs of the organization.
- Coordinates system and processing changes with other departments such as operations, product development and regulatory staff to ensure compliance with state law and regulatory reporting requirements.
- Works closely with internal contract consultants to review, recommend various vendors and associated contracts for corporate-wide underwriting tools, systems and services. (D&B, ISO, AM Best, ACORD) Tracks metrics against service level agreements and analyzes information to locate areas of improvement and operational efficiencies. Ensures costs are allocated correctly.
- Participant in the identification of training needs across the organization including business units and operations and in collaboration with other team members, develops guidelines, reference and training materials for work processes and systems. Utilizes a variety of media to develop and/or deliver training solutions.
- Performs underwriting and compliance audits on business units, specific lines of business, and fronting arrangements.
- Stays abreast of industry and insurance trends.
- Bachelor's degree preferred
- 2-3 years of related P&C Underwriting, Rating or Operations experience
