Job title: Associate Director, Product & Technology DevOps in San Francisco, CA - Austin, TX at Vista Equity Partners Management Company: Vista Equity Partners Management Job description: Position Summary:Position SummaryWe are looking for an Associate Director to join Vista’s Value Creation Team (VCT) in the Product and Technology (P&T) Practice, which serves as a trusted advisor to portfolio company leaders in product, technology and cybersecurity. As an Associate Director focused on DevOps and working with engineering leaders across our enterprise software portfolio companies, you will:
  • Work with VCT colleagues, investment team members, and portfolio company executives on value creation initiatives that focus on DevOps, the software development lifecycle
  • Work with P&T team colleagues to define DevOps and software development best practices for the portfolio, including strategies related to accelerating development with AI
  • Work with VCT collleagues and portfolio company leaders to accelerate DevOps initiatives, and to drive engineering acceleration via DevOps, Cloud Ops, FinOps, etc.
This role will give exposure to investment decision making, value creation and transformation and will help you gain practical experience scaling the world’s premier software/technology businesses. Former members of this team have gone on to accelerate their careers in larger leadership roles within Vista and joined companies in the Vista portfolio as engineering leaders.The role is based in San Francisco, CA, Austin, TX, or remote locations and is available for an immediate start. We support flexible ways of working, but believe the best collaboration happens at least partly in person. Some travel required. Responsibilities:Primary Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with portfolio company executives, investment teams and operating partners to develop and shape the value creation strategy to achieve the Investment Thesis
  • Analyze DevOps processes across various portfolio companies, identify areas to optimize, work with management teams to implement automation and AI-assisted code generation strategies, and advise on architectural risks and best practices to realize short and long term efficiency gains
  • Establish deep relationships with major DevOps tool providers (GitHub, GitLab, Azure DevOps, CircleCI, Jenkins) to assist companies going through large transformation
  • Develop expertise in AI-based code generation tools and platforms (GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, Cognition Devon, Cursor, Windsurf Codeium, Amazon CodeWhisperer, Tabnine) to accelerate software development and improve code quality across portfolio companies
  • Work with Engineering teams to evolve and help implement the DevOps Roadmap for the portfolio companies
  • Advise on technical risks and opportunities related to CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, and automation security
  • Define, document, implement and continuously improve software development lifecycle best practices, including AI-augmented development workflows, for achieving development operational excellence across Vista's portfolio of companies
  • Champion and breed a culture of automation, DevOps innovation, and engineering excellence
Qualifications:Qualifications
  • Passion and curiosity for technology, software and data, as well as what makes successful technology companies and investors
  • 7+ years of experience
  • Experience defining and launching new software products, and experience in managing product management teams
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% of time
  • Strong communication and project management skills
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, both in individual and collaborative environments
  • Ability to drive cross-functional analysis, integrating perspectives on technology, business and finance
  • Ability to bring structure to large, complex questions with limited guidance
  • Ability to multi-task, operate independently, and deliver on tight deadlines
  • Preferred Computer Science or technology-related degree
