In this role, you will be the first point of contact for patients and guests, greeting them courteously whether in person or over the phone. You will initiate the scheduling of appointments and assist in the check-in process for patients, ensuring that accurate identification and demographic data are obtained and verified for the patient's permanent medical record. This is crucial for accurate reimbursement and maintaining the confidentiality of all patient information. Your responsibilities will include point-of-service collections and face-to-face interactions with patients during the registration and admission process. You will verify insurance through electronic means, telephone, or web applications, and work to improve patient satisfaction by consistently representing the company in a professional manner. Responsibilities

  • Greet patients and guests courteously, both in person and via telephone.

  • Initiate scheduling appointments and assist in the check-in process for patients.

  • Obtain and verify accurate identification and demographic data for patients.

  • Perform point-of-service collections and manage face-to-face patient interactions during registration and admission.

  • Verify insurance through electronic verification, telephone, or web applications.

  • Improve patient satisfaction by representing the company professionally.

  • Gather and input patient/guarantor demographic and financial information accurately.

  • Explain insurance benefits and collect co-pays, deductibles, and self-pay portions due.

  • Balance cash drawer daily and prepare deposit slips at the end of each shift.

  • Demonstrate respect and cooperation in all staff relationships and resolve interpersonal conflicts.

  • Adapt behavior to specific patient populations, ensuring respect for privacy and communication style.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's degree preferred.

,

  • One year of related experience in hospital, clinic, medical office, business services/revenue cycle, or customer service.

,

  • Computer skills and dexterity for data entry and information retrieval.

,

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.

,

  • Proficiency with Windows-style applications and various software packages specific to the role.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and clerical skills.

,

  • Technical knowledge of healthcare insurance benefits and billing regulations.

  • Ability to present information clearly and respond to patient inquiries effectively.

  • Good organizational, time management, and conflict resolution skills.

  • Excellent decision-making skills and strong attention to detail.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certification in Healthcare Access Manager (CHAM) preferred.

  • Certification in Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA) preferred.

  • Certification as a Medical Assistant or other medical specialty-based certification preferred.
