Summer Lead Instructor - Intro to Python (Remote)

What we’re looking for Someone who has a passion for coding, social justice, and community to join our team and dedicate their skills towards uplifting Bay Area high school students by bridging the tech divide. As a Lead Instructor, you will be at the forefront of designing creative content and connecting with students to provide an engaging and welcoming classroom environment! Details • Highly visible, student-facing role on the Instruction team, reporting directly to the Innovative Learning Coordinator. As an Instructor with us, you’ll be responsible for integrating critical thinking, problem-solving, creative thinking, communication, collaboration, and global citizenship into your classes, tracking student progress, and helping students realize their potential. • You must be comfortable suggesting and implementing new ideas that improve the quality and integrity of Mission Bit and our curriculum. You understand that there are always new opportunities for improvement and ways to elevate our standards. • Our success depends on building teams who can challenge each other's assumptions with fresh perspectives. Schedule Instructor Training • June 13, 2023—June 16, 2023 Class Dates • Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 10 am - 2:30 pm • June 20, 2023—July 28, 2023 Weekly Meetings • 1 hour a week to meet with the instructional team (virtual) Monthly Meetings: • 45 minutes/month to meet with the education and curriculum team Hours • 14.5 hours a week Demo Day • TBD Location • In-person Responsibilities: • Facilitate activities such as lectures, live-coding demonstrations, coding challenges, and Q&A sessions with students in the classroom • Create an inclusive and community-based classroom culture surrounding the Mission Bit core values of social justice, community, accountability, smart risks, and love • Develop individual and meaningful relationships with students • Manage volunteers that help in your classroom • Communicate student progress and success throughout the course to the Program Staff and Innovative Learning Coordinator so that we can collectively support students’ learning • Collaborate with other Instructors • Ensure students are developing sufficient understanding to build their final project at the end of the semester that can be showcased at our Demo Day • Have at least 2+ years of technical experience in Python • Must be able to pass a technical skills assessment • Strong understanding of the programming platforms • Punctual, organized, and prepared • Values aligned with Mission Bit and passion for sharing CS knowledge • Experience in teaching • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; comfortable and compelling in public speaking situations • Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals • Self-starting with the ability to effectively work autonomously with little oversight • Intelligent, dedicated, and flexible with a willingness to experiment Pay $27.00 / hour Mission Bit is an equal opportunity employer that does not discriminate on the basis of actual or perceived race, creed, color, religion, national origin, ancestry, age, physical or mental disability, pregnancy, genetic information, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, marital status, familial status, domestic violence victim status, veteran or military status, or any other legally recognized protected basis under federal, state or local laws.
