What You'll Do: As a Software Development Manager (SDM) on the Chewy Vet Care (CVC) Engineering team, you will lead a team of high-performing engineers to enhance and expand CVC Pet Parent suit of products. This is a highly visible role with significant exposure across the organization, where you will influence the vision, architecture, design, and features of this growing line of business. As the leader of a dynamic team, you will have unparalleled opportunities for professional growth at Chewy, the leading online pet retailer in the US. Responsibilities • Lead and develop a team of software and quality engineers responsible for the expansion of Rhapsody. • Provide strong technical leadership, foster autonomous teams, and deliver on a significant product roadmap. • Mentor and support the professional growth of high-caliber engineers and engineering managers. • Operate as a strategic leader with exceptional technical architecture, project management, and operational skills. • Drive technical decisions in collaboration with product and business partners, balancing forward-looking roadmap initiatives with iterative improvements across multiple teams. • Promote and maintain a culture of operational excellence with consistent, repeatable processes and standards. • Build and nurture strong working relationships across all levels of the organization and with multi-functional teams. • Collaborate with other engineering leaders to establish and drive standard methodologies in software design, development, testing, and deployment. Minimum Qualifications • 3+ years of experience leading people as an Engineering Manager • 3+ years of hands-on experience as a software engineer or architect. • Expertise in designing, building, and deploying scalable, highly available systems. • Proficiency in Java and frameworks like Spring Boot for RESTful and GraphQL APIs and microservices. • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, including tools such as Docker, Jenkins, and cloud platforms like GCP (or similar). • Proven track record of delivery using Scrum methodology. • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent work experience. Preferred Qualifications • Experience with Kubernetes and Helm Charts for container orchestration. • Experience with frontend web technologies and frameworks such as React. • Background in e-commerce or healthcare domains.
