Mortgage Underwriting Manager & Credit Officer

About the position The Mortgage Underwriting Manager and Credit Officer (MUMCO) at CTBC Bank Corp USA is a pivotal role responsible for overseeing the review and approval of residential mortgage loans while managing a team of mortgage underwriters. This position plays a crucial part in the development of mortgage loan products and the application of credit policies, guidelines, and procedures to ensure that residential mortgage loans are originated and managed in alignment with the Bank's risk tolerance. The MUMCO will engage with various business units to provide constructive feedback and ensure that the credit underwriting quality adheres to the Bank's policies and documentation requirements. In terms of responsibilities, the MUMCO will spend approximately 50% of their time on credit approval, which includes reviewing and approving credit requests submitted by business units and providing independent credit recommendations to higher-level authorities when necessary. The role also involves managing a team of underwriters, ensuring they adhere to applicable credit policies and guidelines, which constitutes about 30% of the job. The MUMCO will coach underwriters to ensure satisfactory decision-making and turnaround times while negotiating with business units as needed. The remaining 20% of the role focuses on credit monitoring and product development, where the MUMCO will monitor portfolio performance, recommend guideline modifications, and assist in product development to study its impact on the Bank's portfolio. Additionally, the MUMCO is expected to achieve individual objectives and contribute to the overall goals established by the Credit Group. This includes ensuring that asset origination is of high quality, supporting the Bank's growth objectives, completing mandatory training on compliance, and responding to internal and external examination and audit questions. The role requires a strong educational background and extensive experience in credit analysis and management, making it a critical position within the organization. Responsibilities • Review and approve credit requests submitted by business units. , • Provide independent credit recommendations to higher-level approval authority if applicable. , • Ensure the credit underwriting quality with Bank policies, guidelines, and documentation requirements followed. , • Engage with business units to provide constructive feedback. , • Manage underwriters to ensure adherence to applicable credit policies and guidelines. , • Manage the team workload and coverage to ensure sufficiency. , • Coach underwriters to ensure satisfactory decision making and turn time. , • Negotiate with business units as needed. , • Coordinate with Operation in efficiently completing the loan origination process. , • Monitor portfolio performance and recommend guidelines modification to adapt to market trend while maintaining credit quality. , • Perform periodic credit review and grading process to ensure loans are properly risk graded. , • Assist in product development and study the impact to the Bank's portfolio. , • Achieve individual objectives and goals and contribute to the accomplishment of those established by Credit Group. , • Ensure asset origination is of strong quality while supporting the Bank's success in its objective of growth. , • Successfully complete all mandatory training on related Bank and BSA compliance as well as other laws and regulations as assigned in a timely manner. , • Respond to internal/external examination and audit questions. , • Perform other duties as assigned. Requirements • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or other business-related fields. , • 15+ years of experience in credit analysis and credit approval of residential mortgage loans. , • 7+ years of experience in managing residential mortgage underwriters. , • Knowledgeable in banking regulations and governing laws. , • Able to prioritize and perform duties independently. , • Proficient in communication with all levels of staff including business units and the management.
