Night Dispatcher, Maritime Industry

JOB SUMMARY: Coordinate evening ships requiring a pilot (state or federal) as they enter or leave ports. Responsible for maintaining existing orders but also taking new order of ships with 24-hours of movement. Important information to collect is name of ship, route, draft, length, beam, and IMO#. All collected information is to be documented and returned to the main office by 8 am the following... day. Additionally, coordinate pilot boat crews as ship schedules adjust. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: ? Coordinate evening pilotage orders, changes, and movements with the Pilots, boat crews, and main office. Must have a general understanding of Long Island Sound, Narragansett Bay, and all of Cape and Islands. Must have the ability to act quickly and independently. Use of technology is required. OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: ? Perform additional duties as required LICENSES, TOOLS, AND EQUIPMENT: Various office equipment which includes computers, printers, database management, and spreadsheet software, record keeping systems; thus access to phone, Internet, printer, and typing device are need. REQUIRED ? Maritime Experience or training is required. ? Education: Minimum of associates in General Studies or equivalent experience and trainings ? Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and efficiently in multiple modalities – including oral, written to both people within and outside of the organization. ? Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with the main office, pilots, and other important team members, especially relief dispatchers ? Demonstrated phone etiquette skills – must answer all phone calls while on duty ? Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups/ populations ? Demonstrated ability to collect, interpret, communicate relevant data with attention to detail- prioritize and logically dispatch pilots to each job to ensure fairness in the rotation ? Demonstrated ability to work in a fast pace environment, as needed ? Must be able to work over 15 night hour shifts PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: ? Proficiency in Microsoft Excel. ? Prior dispatch experience and/or related industry experience ? Ability to use logical thought processes to interpret various situations and requests to quickly solve problems ? Ability to work independently but as a team, especially for decisions that impact the entire company ?
