Role Overview

As a Senior Data Engineer at arenaflex, you will lead the architecture and implementation of robust data solutions that span cloud, on‑premises, and hybrid environments. You will collaborate with data product owners, data scientists, and cross‑functional teams to translate business requirements into high‑performance data platforms. This is a fully remote, full‑time position based in the United States, offering a competitive salary range of $35,000–$40,000 per year.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design & Build Scalable Data Pipelines: Develop and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines in Scala, Python, and Spark that process terabytes of data daily while adhering to strict SLA uptime requirements.
  • Lakehouse Engineering: Lead the migration to a Lakehouse‑driven architecture using Delta Lake, Snowflake, and Databricks, ensuring data consistency, reliability, and accessibility for analytics teams.
  • Cloud Integration: Leverage AWS services (S3, EMR, EC2, Glue) to create resilient, cost‑effective data solutions that support both batch and streaming workloads.
  • Collaboration & Communication: Partner with Data Product Managers, Data Architects, and Business Analysts to define data models, establish governance standards, and deliver end‑to‑end data solutions.
  • Documentation & Quality Assurance: Maintain comprehensive documentation, data lineage, and metadata catalogs to support data quality initiatives and regulatory compliance.
  • Performance Optimization: Continuously monitor, profile, and tune data pipelines to achieve optimal throughput, latency, and resource utilization.

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).
  • 5+ years of hands‑on experience designing and operating large‑scale data pipelines in a production environment.
  • Proficiency in Scala and Python, with a deep understanding of functional programming paradigms.
  • Strong SQL skills; ability to write complex queries, optimize performance, and build performant data sets.
  • Extensive experience with Apache Spark (including PySpark) and data processing frameworks such as Flink.
  • Solid background in AWS services (S3, EMR, EC2, Lambda, Glue) and cloud‑native data architectures.
  • Hands‑on experience with at least one major MPP or cloud data warehouse technology (Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery, etc.).
