Legal Assistant / Compliance Specialist (Part-Time / Contract-to-Hire) 4 hours/week maximum Pay: $25 – $30 / hour ($100 – $120 / week total) Location: Remote (Day-to-day) / Interview takes place at our Corporate Office

We are a fast-paced tech startup that has rapidly built out an impressive, feature-rich platform and is now preparing for scale. As we transition from "speed-to-market" to "long-term stability," we are looking for a sharp, systematic legal mind to help protect our infrastructure, safeguard our intellectual property, and ensure total compliance across our digital footprint. The Challenge Moving fast means we need proactive guardrails. We require a detail-oriented legal professional who can act as our internal watchdog—auditing our existing public-facing agreements, tracking legal and regulatory shifts, and keeping us entirely compliant. You will ruthlessly spot regulatory risks, help untangle complex corporate legal questions, and ensure our user-facing documents are airtight. This will transition into a full-time role after we officially launch and find the right person for our company. What You’ll Do

  • Terms of Service & Privacy Policy Management: Review, refine, and update our Terms of Service (ToS) and Privacy Policies to align with current state, federal, and international data laws.
  • Regulatory Watchdog & Operational Compliance: Keep a pulse on evolving legal standards affecting tech, digital media, and software platforms to ensure our business practices remain fully compliant.
  • Litigation Support & Dispute Navigation: Help us navigate, manage, and resolve active disputes, legal claims, or regulatory inquiries. You will coordinate with external counsel where necessary and build the framework to protect the company in adversarial situations.
  • Legal Research & High-Stakes Problem Solving: Conduct deep-dive legal research into specific operational hurdles, intellectual property considerations, or complex jurisdictional issues, providing clear, tactical strategies to solve problems affecting our company.
  • Corporate Risk Mitigation: Review vendor agreements, internal guidelines, and operational workflows to identify, isolate, and neutralize potential liabilities before they escalate into litigation.
  • Documentation & Standard Drafting: Establish clean internal templates and documentation standards for employee access guidelines, data retention policies, and legal notices.

Requirements

  • Proven Legal Research Capabilities: Deep familiarity with Westlaw, LexisNexis, or similar legal databases. You know how to find answers to niche corporate or tech legal questions efficiently.
  • Drafting Precision: Obsessive attention to detail in contractual and policy language. You understand how to write robust, legally sound policies without unnecessary fluff.
  • Tech-Savvy Mindset: Comfortable working with a modern digital company. You don't need to code, but you should understand how web platforms, user data, and SaaS models function.
  • Pragmatic Mindset: Ability to deliver high-impact research, clear summaries, and policy updates within a strict 4-hour weekly limit.
  • In-Person Interview: Must be available to complete the interview process in person at our corporate office.
