Communications Systems Technician

About the position The Communications Systems Technician supports safe and effective transit operations by performing preventative and corrective maintenance on communication and fare systems. This role is crucial for maintaining the integrity and functionality of the transit network's communication and fare collection infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and support network, communication, and fare collection systems, including Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV), Public Address (PA) systems, fiber optics, and network nodes.
  • Maintain communication infrastructure and fare collection equipment, including variable message boards.
  • Identify, gather, and test necessary parts; safely work with electricity; and operate and maintain specialized tools and equipment.
  • Perform general cleaning, maintenance, and inventory management of tools, parts, and equipment.
  • Respond to emergencies and maintain detailed inspection, repair, and inventory records.
  • Support cross-functional projects, system upgrades, and technology implementations to improve operations.
  • Perform other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED and one (1) year of experience in communications systems maintenance, network hardware diagnostics, or SCADA operations and troubleshooting.
  • Valid Arizona Driver's License and a safe driving record.
  • Ability to obtain a Class B CDL permit within 90 days of attending New Employee Orientation.
  • Ability to obtain a full Class B CDL with air brake endorsement within 6 months of hire.
  • Knowledge of SCADA system hardware theories.
  • Knowledge of network diagnostics methodologies.
  • Knowledge of surveillance equipment maintenance processes.
  • Knowledge of fare collection system operations procedures.
  • Knowledge of CCTV and PA system functionality theories.
  • Knowledge of electrical safety procedures.
  • Knowledge of inventory control and parts tracking processes.
  • Proficiency in using a computer and related software.
  • Skills in inspecting communication and fare equipment accurately.
  • Skills in troubleshooting network and video system failures.
  • Skills in repairing SCADA-related devices efficiently.
  • Skills in maintaining tools and equipment in working condition.
  • Skills in responding to system alarms promptly.
  • Skills in updating maintenance logs consistently.
  • Skills in facilitating replacement parts inventory accurately.
  • Communication and interpersonal skills to exchange information and receive work direction.
