Financial Analyst Levels I, II and III

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority is North America's largest transportation network, serving a population of 15.3 million people. The Financial Analyst Levels I, II, and III roles provide varying levels of support and analysis to the Management and Budget Unit, focusing on the development and oversight of the operating budget for Bridges and Tunnels.

Responsibilities

  • Develop budgets and projections for future years for the departments of Operations, Maintenance, Law, Revenue Management, and others as needed
  • Track actual expenses for non-labor categories against the budget, investigate differences, and provide variance explanations
  • Undertake economic, revenue, and/or expenditure research projects as needed
  • Contribute to the writing and production of the Year-End Report, Annual Reports, Financial Plan narratives, and other materials
  • Assist in the development and monitoring of the personnel budget, including capital reimbursable hours
  • Other duties as assigned

Skills

  • Demonstrated proficiency in or ability to learn the Microsoft Office Suite or comparable applications, i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Proficiency in and/or ability to learn communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in and/or ability to learn organizational and presentation skills
  • Proficiency in and/or ability to learn to work with all internal levels within a given organization
  • Proficiency in and/or ability to learn, communicate, and interact well with external agencies
  • Proficiency in and/or ability to learn to complete short- and long-term projects effectively and as efficiently as possible
  • Proficiency in and/or ability to learn analytical and/or quantitative skills
  • Knowledge of Multidimensional Database Management systems, such as Hyperion Essbase or related systems
  • Must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Must have demonstrated ability to learn organizational and presentation skills
  • Must be able to work with all internal levels within a given organization
  • Must possess the ability to communicate and interact well with external agencies
  • Must possess ability to complete short- and long-term projects effectively and as efficiently as possible
  • Must possess analytical and/or quantitative skills
  • Bachelor's degree in business, Transportation, Public Policy or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience from an accredited college may be considered in lieu of a degree
  • Minimum 2 years of related experience
  • Minimum 4 years of related experience
  • Knowledge of Multidimensional Database Management systems, such as Hyperion Essbase
  • Master's degree in a related field
  • Familiarity with the MTA's policies and procedures
  • Familiarity with the New York City Subway System and its operations

Benefits

  • This position is eligible for teleworking, which is currently one day per week.
