This position reports to: Solution Engineering Switchboard Chapter Lead - USA __ In this role, you will have the opportunity to contribute to ABB’s success with technology, software, product, and system development. Each day, you will identify and implement innovative solutions to relevant problems. You will also showcase your expertise by providing ideas and by being able to work both independently and as a part of a Research & Development (R&D) team. The work model for the role is: Hybrid We are looking to appoint an R&D Engineer – LV Switchboards to support the ELSP (Smart Power) business at our site in Bloomfield, CT . While working collaboratively in a fast-paced team environment, the engineer should demonstrate experience in design, quality, safety, compliance, and new product implementation.

Responsibilities

  • The Engineer will be responsible for the design, development, and manufacturing implementation of engineering programs that meet business standards and program / product requirements
  • Design, develop, analyze, and document product designs which meet the functional, cost, reliability, manufacturability, and safety requirements of the customer or market
  • Support engineering change orders (ECNs/ICNs) to ensure smooth implementation into production
  • Execute designs with solid modeling software (PTC Creo / Windchill) to create models, assemblies, detailed drawings, and BOMs for designs which may include plastic, stamped metal, and electrically conductive parts
  • Ensure proper documentation of technical data generated for the assigned tasks consistent with engineering policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Mechanical Engineering
  • 2+ years of experience in mechanical engineering, technical design role.
  • Self-motivated and proactive, capable of managing multiple priorities and tasks with minimal supervision
  • Experience in mechanical design, including 3D modeling and 2D drawing creation in PTC Creo (or similar CAD tools)
  • Thrives in a team-first culture, where knowledge-sharing, mutual support, and collective problem-solving are prioritized over individual ‘silos’
