Remote Pharmaceutical Research Scientist - Discovery Chemistry

Our client, a globally recognized pharmaceutical leader dedicated to discovering and developing life-changing medicines, is seeking an exceptional Pharmaceutical Research Scientist specializing in Discovery Chemistry for a fully remote position. This role is central to our mission of advancing innovative therapeutic candidates from early discovery through preclinical development. You will leverage your expertise in synthetic organic chemistry and medicinal chemistry to design, synthesize, and optimize novel small molecules with therapeutic potential. This remote role offers the flexibility to contribute significantly to our research pipeline from your own laboratory or home office setup. Key Responsibilities: Design and synthesize novel small molecules using modern synthetic organic chemistry techniques. Optimize lead compounds for potency, selectivity, pharmacokinetics, and safety profiles. Plan and execute multi-step synthetic routes, troubleshoot reaction challenges, and purify target compounds. Characterize synthesized compounds using analytical techniques such as NMR, LC-MS, and HPLC. Collaborate closely with biologists, pharmacologists, and other research scientists to advance drug discovery projects. Analyze experimental data, interpret results, and contribute to project strategy discussions. Maintain detailed and accurate laboratory notebooks and prepare research reports. Stay abreast of the latest scientific literature, methodologies, and technologies in medicinal chemistry and drug discovery. Present research findings at internal project meetings and potentially at external scientific conferences. Ensure compliance with all laboratory safety protocols and company policies. Qualifications: Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, or a closely related field. Postdoctoral research experience or 3+ years of relevant industry experience in drug discovery. Proven expertise in synthetic organic chemistry, including the design and execution of complex synthetic pathways. Strong understanding of medicinal chemistry principles and structure-activity relationships (SAR). Proficiency in analytical techniques for compound characterization (NMR, MS, HPLC, etc.). Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to independently manage research projects. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex scientific information. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a remote, collaborative research environment. Experience with computational chemistry tools and databases is a plus. A strong publication record is desirable.
