Research & Instruction Librarian I, Business Generalist

About the position The Research & Instruction Librarian, Business Generalist develops and delivers customized instruction that integrates essential business intelligence, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills; designs effective and accessible learning experiences; and serves as a strategic partner in aligning instructional support with research services. This role supports students in experiential learning programs, guiding them as they apply business concepts and tools within real‑world business contexts. In addition to discipline specific liaison work, the librarian contributes to library wide initiatives that advance institutional goals and improve learning outcomes, leveraging emerging research technologies such as artificial intelligence. The position supports campus engagement and service activities that strengthen the library’s role as an integrated academic partner.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver instruction and research support across a broad spectrum of business information resources, including economic, financial, legal, management, competitive intelligence, artificial intelligence, and marketing research tools.
  • Serve as the liaison to designated academic divisions, providing curriculum support, research assistance, library instruction, collection evaluation, and special projects that advance teaching and scholarship.
  • Develop and maintain strong knowledge of emerging research technologies, including artificial intelligence, by evaluating and piloting AI tools, developing AI learning resources, and providing informed guidance on the ethical use of generative AI through instruction and research consultations.
  • Participate in the assessment of student learning and contribute to library assessment projects.
  • Learns, implements, and uses new technologies in pursuit of continuous enhancements of library services and in support of larger Information Technology Services Department (ITSD) initiatives.
  • Assist with special projects as assigned.
  • Assume additional responsibilities as required.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Library and Information Studies/Science from a school accredited by the American Library Association.
  • At least 1-3 years of post MLS library experience
  • Strong and dynamic classroom presence and presentation skills with evidence of strong interest and success with learning, implementing, and teaching using current and emerging information technologies.
  • Knowledge of best practices of instructional design as applied to in person, online, synchronous and asynchronous instruction
  • Must have exceptional interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with diverse students, faculty, staff, administrators, alumni, and other community members.
  • Commitment to the development of deep knowledge in business-related disciplines.
  • Strong computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, Access etc.).
  • Envisions and proposes new methods to perform tasks that support Entrepreneurial Thought & Action (ET&A); takes thoughtful risks; and accepts new and ongoing initiatives, objectives, and solutions to gain sought-after results.
  • Anticipates and embraces change; demonstrates willingness to achieve, acquire, and utilize new skills and challenging tasks; and is flexible in changing conditions

Nice-to-haves

  • Advanced degree, or substantial experience, in business, economics, marketing or related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to create and maintain web content using basic HTML and Springshare platforms to support instructional and research services.
