Duration: 12 months contract (Direct Hire) Shift: 40 hours a week Job Summary:- The Category Manager is responsible for performing contracting functions for VCU Health System and its owned and controlled affiliates on behalf of the Supply Chain.

  • Primary responsibilities include management of processes surrounding contracts and other documents submitted to Supply Chain for review, assessment with contracting compliance guidelines, and routing to the appropriate parties for approval and signature.
  • Under the direction of Supply Chain Leadership, the Category Manager serves an important role in mitigating organizational risk by requiring review and due diligence before advancing documents for signature.
  • The Category Manager is responsible for preparing, redlining, processing, and maintaining contracts in keeping with requirements of VCU Health system and regulatory bodies.
  • Under the direct supervision of Leadership, draft, review, revise and analyze contract documents.
  • Perform the process of contracting for supplies and purchased services while adhering to requirements determined by VCU Health System Leadership (Supply Chain, Office of General Counsel, Privacy Office, Insurance Services, Information Systems, Finance, etc.).
  • The process of contracting includes, but is not limited to, creating, reviewing, redlining, executing, and maintaining contract documents while meeting VCU Health System requirements.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key suppliers and internal stakeholders to align with organizational objectives.
  • Maintain and utilize a current list of internal reviewers and stakeholders for category assignments.
  • Assist in the preparation of contracts and sourcing documents, including all related research and value analysis through collaboration and implementation of initiatives across assigned categories.
  • Administer systems and processes to track and manage documents submitted to Workday Strategic Sourcing for processing; and managing expectations and providing updates to clients including senior leadership on an as needed basis, navigating competing priorities and serving as a voice of the Supply Chain Department.
  • Ensure contract documents are maintained within VCU Health System's contract repository and related systems as required by department leadership.
  • Proactively respond to stakeholder and leadership requests in a timely manner.
  • Ensure responsibility and visible commitment of diversity equity and inclusion programs/initiatives through collaboration and implementation of initiatives across the health system.
  • Ensure contracting and sourcing activities performed meet and advance requirements of VCU Health System's supplier engagement program.
  • From time to time, as a core team member in the Supply Chain team, the Category Manager may serve as backup for Category Manager Seniors, Category Manager Leads, and other team members to facilitate consistent coverage; and/or perform other duties as requested.
  • Additional duties may arise based on the organization's needs and evolving industry trends; it is important to understand this role will require flexibility and adaptability.

Skills:- Years and Type of Required Experience: 2+ years sourcing and contracting (negotiating terms and conditions) functions

  • Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
  • Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint skills
  • High level of integrity, professionalism, and discretion.
  • Excellent project management and multitasking abilities.
  • Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred: 3+ years of progressive experience in a healthcare setting autonomously leading various types of negotiations, solicitations, pricing agreements and/or bid proposals.

Education:- Required Education: Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, business, or related field (supply chain, contract negotiations/sourcing experience may serve in lieu of degree)

  • Combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Licensure/Certification Preferred: Certification in paralegal studies
