Key Responsibilities
- Manage full-cycle accounting for a portfolio of properties, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and bank reconciliations.
- Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with relevant accounting standards.
- Conduct variance analysis between actual and budgeted results, providing clear explanations and recommendations.
- Assist with budgeting and forecasting processes, collaborating with property managers and other stakeholders.
- Process tenant billings, lease abstracts, and monitor rent collections.
- Prepare year-end working papers and support external auditors during annual audits.
- Ensure compliance with all tax regulations, including GST/HST filings and property tax assessments.
- Maintain organized and accurate financial records and documentation.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of accounting processes and systems.
- Provide financial reports and analysis to management as required.
Required Skills
- Minimum 3 years of progressive experience in property accounting or real estate finance.
- Strong understanding of full-cycle accounting principles, specifically within the real estate sector.
- Proficiency with Yardi, MRI, or similar property management accounting software.
- Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, data analysis).
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
- Proven ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a remote environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to analyze financial data and prepare clear, concise reports.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA designation or actively pursuing.
- Experience with various property types (e.g., commercial, residential, industrial).
- Familiarity with Canadian accounting standards (ASPE or IFRS).
