ANTICIPATED HIRING RANGE: Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $4,610 per month.
- However, offer amount will be commensurate with candidate's experience, education, skills, and training.
- Provide communication through one-on-one appointments, daily electronic communications, phone calls and group academic advising sessions.
- Work with students to evaluate and understand their academic records, set goals for academic progress to ensure completion of their academic programs, and inform and interpret university, college, and program level academic policies and procedures.
- Actively coach students through degree attainment process by meeting with students on a regular basis to track their academic success, identifying options for students to satisfy degree requirements, evaluating and making recommendations on petitions and amendments to student's program of study to assist their completion, monitoring students on academic contracts, and monitoring student progress through their program.
- Identify academic options for students such as degrees, minors, certificates, graduation requirements, curriculum, course selection and registration, career options and extracurricular activities. Assist student in establishing realistic and attainable academic and career goals. Determine placement and removal of advising holds.
- Assist with campus and school retention and graduation efforts. Function as an academic case manager for all assigned students. Monitor and notate academic progress and advising interactions of student in the file in OnBase and Grades First and submit requests and make changes to student records via People Soft. Ensure that students know how to use their MyCSUB portal.
- Meet with students to advise and direct to applicable retention services such as the Center for Community Engagement and Career Education, faculty advising, tutoring, Student Health Center, Counseling Center, and Financial Aid. Work collaboratively with other academic units and services in the school and throughout the university to facilitate comprehensive student support. Make referrals to appropriate resources.
- Develop a graduation plan for each student based on the unique needs of each student. Assess student's progress and adjust the plan based on the progress and changing needs of the student.
- Collaborate and advocate with university units outside of the School of Business and Public Administration on behalf of individual students, including working with feeder high schools and Community Colleges.
- Act as a document specialist for the document imaging system, such as OnBase, ImageNow, etc. Create various reports using Office 365 applications.
- Assist, participate, organize and/or conduct Orientations, Graduations, College Night, honors, grant events, etc.
- Participate in various BPA Committees, university committees, and outreach events.
- Assist with onboarding new advisors.
- Regular and reliable attendance is required.
- Ability to interpret and evaluate descriptions and explanations of problems brought forward by individuals or student organizations; analyze and define the problem; draw valid conclusions and project consequences of various alternative courses of action.
- Working knowledge of the practices, procedures, and activities of the program to which assigned.
- General knowledge of the principles, practices and trends of the Student Services field as well as knowledge of advising and academic policies and procedures.
- Ability to gather and analyze data, draw valid conclusions, and make appropriate recommendations; and participate in and contribute to group meetings.

- Must be willing to travel and attend training programs off-site for occasional professional development.
- Must be able to work occasional holidays and adjust working hours to meet special jobs. May be called back periodically to perform work as needed on an emergency basis.
- Master's Degree in business, public administration, or job-related field.
- Demonstrated skills in an institutional/educational environment utilizing a customer-oriented and service-centered attitude.
