Job description: The Speech and Language Therapist serves as a member of the Multidisciplinary Team designed to assist in the evaluation of the education needs of students suspected of being speech &/or language impaired as well as providing necessary consultation and direct services.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Speech Therapist shall have duties and responsibilities which include, but are not limited to the following.
- Diagnosis of speech and language disorders in students 0-26 years of age.
- Planning and implementing appropriate therapy and intervention strategies.
- Providing consultation and professional inservice to teachers, parents and ancillary staff.
- Serving on preschool, autism, hearing impaired and other diagnostic teams.
- Serving on professional committees that involve the teacher of the speech and language impaired professional expertise.
- Completing state and federal IEP/IFSP team requirements.
- Serving as IEP team chairperson and coordinating student?s speech therapy and special education programming.
- Serving as a liaison between the district, the state and national professional association (Michigan Speech and Hearing Association, American Speech and Hearing Association).
- Other duties assigned.
- Must possess a Master?s Degree in speech and language pathology.
- Must possess curent Certification of Clinical Competence in speech-language pathology (CCC-SLP) from ASHA.
- A minimum of 60 semester or equivalent hours of academic credit in normal aspects of human communication, development thereof, and clinical techniques for evaluation and management of speech and language disorders.
- A minimum of 300 clock hours of supervised practicum experience with person who present a variety of communication disorders to be acquired in conjunction with academic training, 150 hours of which shall be obtained at the graduate level.
- Must possess knowledge of various methods of data collection and subsequent analysis and interpretation of data to drive appropriate instructional and behavioral interventions.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Michigan Driver?s License.
- Must have the ability to communicate effectively.
- Must have own transportation to and from assignments throughout the district.
- Must willing to travel.
- Ability to pass criminal history check.
