Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Athletic Trainer.
In this role, the successful candidate provides support and services as it relates to the Sports Orthopedic clinical and educational programs. Implement injury prevention strategies, provide emergency care and first aid to individuals who have sustained an athletic injury, evaluate athletic injuries, and implement medically prescribed therapeutic reconditioning programs in schools. Provide school sports coverage for contracted schools which may include middle school, high school, college/university, and club sports. Responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating educational programs and community outreach education and prevention initiatives in alignment with the Departmental strategic plan and the Institutions mission. Assist Department Director in program development, contract negotiations, and overall compliance.
Job Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate knowledge of the organizations Service Standards and incorporate them into the performance of duties.
- Other responsibilities as needed.
- Administrative Support - Assist with departmental administrative work as needed.
- Database and Collection Management - Coordinate data collection and entry into Sports Orthopedic database, including distribution of questionnaires and follow-up of missing or incomplete data as appropriate. Perform chart reviews and data analysis. Recruit and schedule patient visits for specific projects; conduct interviews to screen prospective research subjects. Perform literature searches and reviews.
- Works closely with members of the community to provide educational opportunities. Acts as an extension of NYU Langone Sports Health, through branding and name recognition, by discussing our services.
- Reliability in following through with assignments on schedule, adheres to proper work schedule, reports for event coverage and meetings at designated time, gives proper notice of absences and lateness, accepts policies and their modifications and willing to cover sporting events after hours, if needed.
- Advises on the design and implementation of injury prevention, conditioning and fitness programs for athletes pursuant to physician order and supervision, as necessary and in accordance with applicable law.
- Provides advice to athletes, parents, and coaching staff regarding injury prevention, health and wellness and flexibility training. Assists in the preparation, selection, and fitting of protective equipment and pre-injury screening. Participates in pre-season parent/coach/athlete meetings.
- Assists school district with the implementation and yearly re-evaluation of school athletic policies, such as EAP's, Concussion Management and Standing Orders. Work in coordination with CMO, School Nurse and AD pertaining to the health and wellness of student athletes. Provide proper documentation, and maintains confidentiality of athletic injury/illness information.
- Performs initial on-field assessment of acute injuries illnesses that occur during game(s) or practice(s). Provides first-aid and triage in connection with an athlete's injury/illness, as necessary. Monitors these injuries/illnesses and coordinates evaluation and follow-up. Assists athletes in implementing a home exercise program as prescribed by their physician, or another healthcare professional as requested.
- Pediatric Sports Orthopedic Clinic and Office Support Liaison between clinic physician and patient. Educate patient on injury management including activity restriction, physical therapy and home care program. Communicate, when needed, a plan of care with treating medical team. Maintain appropriate documentation for compliance and statistical tracking.
- Community Outreach and Education - Liaison between schools, universities, colleges, sports leagues and sports organizations. Work with chief of primary care sports medicine, Athletic Trainer Coordinator and Department Director on maintaining existing relationships and developing new relationships. Develop and conducts various educational programs for educational and sports organizations.
- Responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating educational programs and community outreach education and prevention initiatives in alignment with the Departmental strategic plan and the Institution's mission.
- Offsite Clinical Services - Evaluate and treat offsite injury and report findings to organization/school medical team. Maintain appropriate documentation. Facilitate pre participation exams.
- Observe proper medical practices. Use medical, social and psychological information to establish goals for patient. Review patient case and confer with physicians and other medical professionals when necessary. Respond to states precautions and incorporates them into patient reconditioning program. Understands and properly implements type of treatment required by each patient. Monitor and assess patient status in order to plan a course of treatment correctly. Document all treatments rendered and maintains appropriate work records. Define and adhere to standardized nomenclature, measurement and reporting. Participate in in-service programs, conferences, and consultations. Maintain all equipment used during treatments. Participate in training and monitoring the performance of athletic training students during their clinical rotation.
