Reporting Relationships
Reports to: Supervision is received from the WEI Program Director
Supervision Exercised: Supervision may be exercised over temporary support staff and student workers.
Job Summary:
Provides personal and academic coaching for past, current and future RVC Workforce Equity Initiative (WEI) students with a particular focus on African-American program participants. The Student Life Coach may be asked to instruct Student Development courses to the WEI program participants.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Additional related duties may be assigned. * Facilitate group discussions and face-to-face meetings with program students.
- Assist with program recruitment and outreach to reach and enroll students in the program.
- Assist with enrollment materials and pre-screening and pre-program support for participants.
- Work with the Program Director, RVC Staff, and support services to coordinate student transportation, childcare, and other support that may be needed.
- Assist with service planning, support services, soft skills, and assistance obtaining and retaining employment.
- Work with students in a strength-based, person-centered model with individualized service planning.
- Maintain student records and reports, including case noting.
- Provide timely reporting of student needs and challenges to the program director, program instructors and other RVC personnel as needed.
- Regular attendance is expected.
- Using tact and courtesy, the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with persons contracted during work.
- Assist applicants with employment information, completion of forms, and answer general job vacancy questions.
- Assist and lead with the facilitation of orientations, workshops, graduation, and other WEI-related activities that pertain to the advancement of students.
- Attend personal and professional development opportunities.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Strong oral and written communication skills are necessary.
- Higher education Student Affairs and/or academic, personal, or professional coaching experience is preferred.
- Experience working with an underserved student population is desired.
