Job description: PARAPROFESSIONAL TIER 1 - SPECIAL EDUCATION
QUALIFICATIONS: * A minimum of thirty-sixty college hours from an accredited college or university is required, pass the Paraprofessional test in the State of Missouri or Missouri 20-hour Online Substitute Training Program, sixty college hours is preferred.
- A valid Missouri Teaching Certificate is preferred.
- Possession of the knowledge, skills, abilities, and physical attributes necessary to perform the essential functions of the position.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate or acceptable.
- Works with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by the teacher.
- Administers, scores, and records such achievement and diagnostic tests as the teacher recommends for individual students.
- Assists the teacher in devising special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on a sympathetic understanding of individual students, their needs, interests, and abilities.
- Operates and cares for equipment used in the classroom for instructional purposes.
- Helps students master equipment or instructional materials assigned by the teacher.
- Distributes and collect workbooks, papers, and other materials for instruction.
- Guides independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work set up and assigned by the teacher.
- Assists with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, and field trips.
- Keeps bulletin board and other classroom learning displays up-to-date.
- Assists with such large group activities as drill work, reading aloud, and story-telling.
- Reads to students listens to students read and participates in other forms of oral communication with students.
- Assists students in the library or media center.
- Checks notebooks, and correct papers, and supervises testing and make-up work, as assigned by the teacher.
- Checks and records student attendance.
- Help students with the clothing necessary and appropriate.
- Assist with the supervision of students.
- Serves as the chief source of information and helps to any substitute teacher assigned in the absence of the regular teacher.
- Serve as a substitute for the teacher, as assigned or required, on an emergency basis.
- Maintains the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentially of information about students as is expected of a fully licensed teacher.
- May be assigned routine clerical duties such as filing, typing, etc.
- Demonstrates effective human relations and communication skills.
- Adheres to good safety practices.
- Adheres to all district rules, regulations, and policies.
- Other duties as required or assigned.
