[Remote] Insurance Billing Specialist (Behavioral Health)
Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. BrentCare Behavioral Health operates multiple behavioral health centers and is seeking a detail-oriented Behavioral Health Billing Specialist to join their team. This role is responsible for verifying patient insurance benefits and ensuring coverage for behavioral health services while supporting the admissions and billing process.
Responsibilities
- Verify patient insurance benefits for behavioral health and/or substance use treatment services
- Contact insurance providers to confirm eligibility, coverage details, co-pays, deductibles, and authorization requirements
- Communicate financial responsibility and coverage details clearly to admissions staff
- Collaborate with admissions, billing, and clinical teams to ensure accurate and timely information
- Maintain accurate records in electronic health record (EHR) and billing systems
- Stay updated on payer policies, behavioral health benefits, and regulatory changes
- Resolve insurance discrepancies, claim denials and escalate complex cases as needed
Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred
- 1–3+ years of experience in revenue cycle management, preferably in behavioral health, mental health, or substance abuse treatment
- Knowledge of commercial insurance, Medicaid, Medicare, and managed care plans
- Familiarity with CPT/ICD codes and claim submission / claim denial processes
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational abilities
- Proficiency with EHR and billing systems
- Experience working in a behavioral health or addiction treatment setting
- Understanding of HIPAA and patient confidentiality requirements
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred
- Proficiency / experience working in Collaborate MD and KIPU Avea (CRM, EHR and RCM)
