Job description: Overview
The USU Disease Ecology laboratory is seeking a project manager (Research Technician III) to help us execute a statewide study investigating disease impacts on Utah's mule deer. The successful applicant will assist with animal captures, data management, and coordination of a large camera trapping study. The successful applicant will also help with reporting both in-person and in writing to the funding agency and collaborative partners.
Hybrid: This position is eligible for hybrid remote work within the state of Utah.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate field sampling kit construction
- Oversee undergraduate researchers and coordinate / partially oversee with graduate student researchers at other sites
- Coordinate with state (Utah Division of Wildlife Resources) and federal (USDA) scientists on sampling protocols
- Plan and coordinate national team meetings
- Handle travel logistics pertinent to sampling
- Lead a winter field effort for camera trapping in southern Utah
- Produce annual reports for USDA
- Produce annual reports for UDWR
- Contribute to data analyses and manuscript preparation as appropriate.
- Bachelor?s degree; OR four years of experience; OR an equivalent combination of education plus experience is required.
- Master's degree is strongly preferred
- Strong understanding of deer ecology and management
- Strong communication skills (written and oral)
- Strong coordination and organization skills
- Ability to self-direct and direct others as needed
- Ability to work safely in remote settings
- Experience with wildlife field biology including trapping, camera surveillance, etc.
