Assistant Project Scientist - Orthopaedic Research

The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at UC Davis Health seeks candidates for the position of Assistant Project Scientist. The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery is experiencing an exciting and transformative period of academic and clinical growth. For this research position, we seek diverse candidates with an established track record of research excellence in musculoskeletal health. Strong preference will be given to scientists with a demonstrated track record of peer-reviewed research in musculoskeletal health with an emphasis on molecular biology, development, epigenetics, tumor microenvironment, oncology, engineering, and/or biochemistry.

The successful candidate will be expected to interface with physicians and other scientists, participate in collaborations within the UC Davis research community, and apply their research expertise to a range of research areas to facilitate the development of new collaborative projects. We are recruiting for a Project Scientist (non-tenure track) at the Assistant rank. The resulting hire will be at the Assistant rank regardless of the proposed appointee's qualifications.

EXPECTATIONS Candidates must possess a terminal degree (M.D., M.D./Ph.D., Ph.D). The ability to work cooperatively and collegially within a diverse community is required to leverage our outstanding partnerships within UC Davis Health, our NCI-Designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, the Colleges of Engineering, Biological Sciences, School of Veterinary Medicine, and Shriners Hospital for Children. Additionally, the holder of this position will have the following responsibilities assigned:

  • Engage in independent and collaborative research in musculoskeletal innovation that complements our existing expertise in oncology, osteoarthritis, tissue engineering, biomechanics and pharmacology. All areas of research will be considered, but preference will be given to those with a strong background in infectious disease, stem cells and development, biomedical imaging, or musculoskeletal oncology.
  • Support the educational activities of the undergraduate, graduate, and residency programs in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery.
  • Engage in service and scholarly activities to advance the mission of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery.
  • Provide service in the musculoskeletal research arena and be fully engaged in activities in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, as well as relevant professional societies.
