Conflicts Analyst Manager

JOB TITLE: Conflicts Analyst Manager FLSA STATUS: Exempt DEPARTMENT: Finance/Accounting REPORTS TO: Director of Conflicts SUMMARY: The Conflicts Analyst Manager is responsible for the file opening process and will be an expert on all aspects of client intake, conflict resolution, and the approval process. The position works closely with the Director of Conflicts to ensure that the Firm provides legal services to high quality, financially able clients who do not present an irresolvable ethical and business conflict to our Firm. Additionally, this position supervises 2-3 members of the Conflicts team.

  • **This is a remote position. Applicant must be located in RI, MA, CT, NH, NY, IL or FL.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: “Essential functions” are primarily job duties that incumbents must be able to perform unassisted or with some reasonable accommodation made by the employer. Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Recruits, interviews, hires and trains new staff in the department.
  • Oversees the daily workflow of the department with focus on efficiency and process improvements.
  • Provides constructive and timely feedback on performance
  • Handles disciplinary issues in partnership with the Director of Conflicts, Human Resources and firm policy

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Review file opening forms and accompanying materials to identify and resolve ethical and business conflicts for new clients and/or new matters.
  • Run conflict searches and analyze them for potential problems.
  • Perform corporate research using online databases, along with general web searches, to determine corporate parents, affiliations, or other important relationships pertaining to conflicts searches.
  • Summarize conflict and background check results to assist attorneys in determining whether to accept a new client or matter.
  • Provide advice on the appropriate provisions for engagement letters (for new clients) and scope letters (for existing clients).
  • Perform comprehensive review of request forms prior to file opening, including but not limited to reviewing the form for accuracy; ensure parties/matter descriptions align and are logical; review engagement terms; and validate any conflicts clearances related to the request.
  • Run conflict searches and analyze them for potential lateral hires based on the laterals’ matter table.
  • Provide a conflicts summary for potential lateral hires to the Director of Conflicts and other involved firm employees and assist in resolving any ethical and business conflicts.
  • Employ firmwide best practices in the workflow of client intake processes and conflict-checking procedures.
  • Work collaboratively with the Director of Conflicts, other Conflicts team members, General Counsel, and firm attorneys.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or a related field.
  • At least 5-7 years of conflicts experience within a law firm or other professional service organization.
  • 2-3 years of previous supervisory experience, managing multiple direct reports.
  • Excellent computer skills including preferably proficiency with Intapp Open. Must have experience with accounting/conflicts software.
  • Excellent analytical skills. Must be detail oriented.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must be comfortable working with people at all different levels in the Firm.
  • Ability to handle a large volume of work.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize numerous tasks and complete them under time constraints.
  • Ability to proofread typed material for grammatical, typographical and spelling errors. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Interpersonal skills are necessary in order to communicate by e-mail, telephone and in person to provide information with ordinary courtesy and tact.
  • Work occasionally requires a high level of mental effort and strain when performing a high volume of deadline-oriented tasks and duties.
  • Work often requires more than 40 hours per week to perform the essential duties of the position; may require irregular hours.

  • Employee must be able to sit for long periods of time at a desk or table.
  • There will be a moderate amount of standing, stooping, kneeling, bending, lifting and reaching for some of his/her job duties.
  • Visual requirements include reading off a computer screen as well as printed materials. A high degree of dexterity is required due to frequent use of a telephone console.
  • Verbal and auditory requirements include the ability to communicate clearly over the telephone as well as in person.
  • There is a moderate level of grasping, lifting, pushing and/or pulling of objects of less than 25 lbs.
