The Physician Solutions Coding Educator will be responsible for developing and facilitating the coding education program for professional services coders.
The Coding Educator will administer training plans on an individual and group basis, work with quality assurance and compliance teams to determine training needed, maintain and monitor training plans for the staff and keep training material updated, relevant, engaging and archived once completed.
In this role, the successful candidate will educate new and existing coders ensuring compliant coding. Training and education to include ICD, CPT, HCPCS, OPPS and other relevant state and federal laws and regulations. The Educator will promote correct coding guidelines and coding initiatives to ensure standardization throughout the organization. This position reports to the Director of Education and Training.
Responsibilities:
- Create, administer, implement, and update the overall professional services coding education program for coding associates.
- Actively work with the Director of Coding Education, Directors of Coding Quality Management, Coding Leaders (and/or other members of those teams) to identify areas where focused education may be needed for all production coders and subsequently develops the curriculum and plan for educating all onshore and offshore coders.
- Administer curricula for all coders to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary for competency.
- Administer curriculum for newly hired coders to ensure proficiency and quality meets company standards.
- Provide "real world" coding experience for all coders prior to releasing any coder for production work.
- Track, manage and report all education activities for assigned sites and coding associates.
- Maintain knowledge of all current coding regulatory guidelines and governmental updates and communicate those changes to current staff and leadership to support appropriate, compliant coding.
- Maintain training collateral across multiple multimedia forums so that information is organized, highly presentable and updated.
- Provide constructive review and feedback to assist in the development of instructional materials to include course plans, objectives, and evaluation tools.
- Minimum of four years of experience in production coding within professional services such as emergency room, family medicine, and other complex specialties including but not limited to surgery, pediatrics.
- AAPC or AHIMA coding credential CPC, CCS-P (RHIA or RHIT may be considered).
- Ability to interact with other employees through effective communication.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to deliver and teach complex coding concepts to small and large groups of coders and well as individuals.
