We're seeking a Day Shift - Part-Time Registered Respiratory Therapist.As a Penn e-Lert RT, you won't be at the bedside-but you'll be deeply connected to it. Our team collaborates with bedside clinicians across the health system to improve outcomes, elevate care, and support clinical decision-making 24/7.You'll help drive safe, high-quality respiratory care across the health system and act as a clinical resource to bedside teams-leveraging virtual technology to enhance outcomes and support frontline staff.One of the most unique aspects of our role? We remotely manage ventilators for donor patients in the organ procurement unit using novelsoftware that brings the ventilator directly to our desktop. Apply today.Summary:A Respiratory Therapist Level 3 (RT3) is a member of the healthcare team who provides expertise in managing patients of all ages who have respiratory disease or acute conditions impacting their ability to breath. The RT3 provides respiratory care to patients in the general, critical care and emergency room environments. The RT3 position is part of an internal HUP clinical advancement program and requires a minimum of 3 years of experience as Registered Respiratory Therapist and a minimum of 3 years as a UPHS employee.Responsibilities:Perform physical assessment of a patient's pulmonary status and make recommendations for appropriate respiratory careAdminister oxygen via various standard delivery devices as well as specialized heated high flow devices and a hyperbaric chamberAdminister aerosolized medications via nebulizer, MDI, DPI or other devicesAdminister prescribed inhaled nitric oxide or aerosolized prostacyclinEvaluate and maintain artificial airways of various sizesSet up, adjust, maintain, and clean various types and brands of mechanical ventilatorsPerform advanced procedures on patients with severe hypoxemia including prone positioning, lung recruitment maneuvers and moreSet up, adjust, maintain, and clean various types and brands of non-invasive BiPAP & CPAP devicesTransport critically ill patients on respiratory modalitiesRespond to hospital emergencies including rapid response, code call, etc.Utilize approved RT protocolsPerform ABG & other diagnostic tests to evaluate the extent of disease or effectiveness of treatmentPerform EKG testing, phlebotomy, IV insertion and other non-traditional roles and/or responsibilities based on department and/or location needDocument patient care activities and enter charges in current electronic data systemComplete annual competencies and continuing education as determined by hospital policy, credential and state licensing requirementsMaintain active RT credential(s) and PA state RT licenseEffectively communicate with other respiratory therapists, physicians, nurses and other care team membersWork well with other healthcare team members and promotes teamwork at all timesServe as a preceptor for students and newly hired RT orientationActivity participate in other areas of the RT department including serving on one or more committees, coordinating performance improvement projects, and/or other functions as specified in the Level III clinical ladder policyServe in the role of charge therapist during times when neither a supervisor or Level 4 RT are not scheduledCredentials:State of Pennsylvania Respiratory Care License (Required)Registered by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) (Required) BLS Healthcare Provider Certification (Required)ACLS (NRP required within 6 months of hire) (Preferred)Education or Equivalent Experience:Associate of Arts or Science (Required)3+ years clinical experience (Required)Graduate of Committee of Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) accredited Respiratory Care program (Required)Bachelor of Arts or Science (Preferred)We believe that the best care for our patients starts with the best care for our employees.
