[Remote] Online Montessori Program Director

Uplift Michigan Online School is seeking a highly qualified and visionary Online Montessori Program Director to lead the design, development, and implementation of an authentic Montessori learning experience in a virtual setting. This administrative and programmatic role is responsible for ensuring Montessori fidelity, overseeing curriculum and systems development, and supporting educators as the program expands statewide.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Montessori Program Director for the online school’s launch year (K–2)
  • Ensure all aspects of the program align with core Montessori principles, including:
  • Independence and self-direction
  • Choice and intrinsic motivation
  • Uninterrupted work cycles
  • Observation-driven progression
  • Collaborate with Montessori consultants and leadership partners to maintain high fidelity to Montessori philosophy and best practices
  • Establish program expectations, benchmarks, and quality indicators during the foundational launch year
  • Guide long-term program growth, including planned expansion by one grade level per year
  • Lead the development of the overall Montessori Online Program model, including:
  • Instructional frameworks
  • Family engagement systems
  • Material distribution and implementation structures
  • Design developmentally appropriate program schedules that balance:
  • Independent work cycles
  • Live touchpoints and community connection
  • Reflection, feedback, and progress monitoring
  • Build scalable systems that support consistency, quality, and growth across households and future classrooms
  • Develop systems to support families in establishing effective Montessori 'prepared environments' in the home
  • Oversee coordination and implementation of Montessori material kits to ensure:
  • Equitable access
  • Consistent use
  • Alignment with program expectations
  • Create guidance, routines, and resources that promote student independence and purposeful work across learning environments
  • Establish Montessori-aligned observation and progress-monitoring frameworks focused on mastery and readiness
  • Support instructional staff in implementing personalized learning pathways rather than rigid pacing calendars
  • Oversee systems for tracking academic progress and developmental growth across the program
  • Use data and observation trends to inform program adjustments and continuous improvement
  • Design and oversee a comprehensive family partnership model to support Montessori learning at home
  • Develop resources and guidance for families related to:
  • Supporting independence without over-assisting
  • Establishing consistent routines
  • Appropriate use and care of Montessori materials
  • Lead and/or coordinate:
  • Parent and guardian orientations
  • Ongoing family workshops
  • Office hours and coaching opportunities
  • Ensure clear, consistent communication between the program, families, and instructional staff
  • Lead the development of a Montessori-aligned online curriculum framework and scope-and-sequence
  • Collaborate in the design and organization of content within the Learning Management System (LMS), including:
  • Weekly learning plans
  • Family support modules
  • Teacher planning and lesson tracking tools
  • Student progress updates and reporting systems
  • Ensure LMS structures support clarity, accessibility, and Montessori best practices
  • Support staffing plans as the program grows, including onboarding and instructional support for future educators
  • Provide instructional leadership and coaching support to teachers without serving as a classroom instructor
  • Participate in enrollment, outreach, and program storytelling efforts that highlight Montessori learning across Michigan
  • Collaborate with Uplift leadership and partners to position the program as a model for online Montessori innovation

Skills

  • Montessori credential (AMI, AMS, or equivalent), preferred in Early Childhood or Elementary
  • Experience in Montessori program leadership, instructional coaching, or administrative roles
  • Strong knowledge of Montessori pedagogy, materials, and child development
  • Ability to design systems and lead programs rather than serve as a classroom teacher
  • Experience building strong partnerships with families in virtual or home-based learning environments
  • Comfort with online platforms, digital tools, and Learning Management Systems (LMS)
  • Experience launching, scaling, or redesigning educational programs
  • Familiarity with curriculum development and online instructional frameworks
  • Experience working in virtual or hybrid learning environments
  • Knowledge of Michigan educational requirements and statewide virtual programs
