Assistant General Counsel, Global Trade

Leidos is a global science and technology solutions leader working to solve the worlds toughest challenges in the defense, intelligence, homeland security, civil, and health markets. Leidos has an opening for an Assistant General Counsel, Global Trade, to lead to legal and compliance efforts across the enterprise. This position represents a core pillar of the Leidos Global Trade program. Reporting directly to the Vice President, Global Trade, you will be leading legal matters for the global trade program in the United States and internationally. The successful candidate will have a proactive and pragmatic approach to global trade compliance, deep subject-matter experience, strong compliance experience, and effective communication across all levels of the business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Providing legal and compliance oversight for U.S. export control laws, sanctions, customs, and anti-boycott, as well as oversight of non-U.S. law equivalent regimes
  • Providing legal advice to businesses and the Global Trade Organization on the compliant application of the law, to include advising on terms and conditions and on trade-related risk
  • Overseeing the development and/or modification of policies, procedures, and work instructions related to Global Trade, to include ensuring trade requirements are embedded within business processes
  • Leading Global Trade Investigations and Disclosures. This includes intake, remediation, drafting disclosures, determining root causes and corrective actions, and implementing measures designed to effectively mitigate risk. This additionally includes ensuring data-driven risk identification and trend analyses
  • Formulating a risk assessment methodology and leading trade compliance risk assessments, to include advising on continuous improvement measures as a result of such assessments and audits
  • Leading Global Trade requirements, due diligence, and business continuity for Merger, Acquisition, Monitoring Leidos non-U.S. entity compliance programs
  • Monitoring and keeping current on the rapidly evolving regulatory environment as it pertains to global trade. This includes communicating with the business on the impact of changes, development of risk mitigation strategies, and aiding the Global Trade Organization with required changes to policies and procedures based on regulatory changes

Basic Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor required
  • 15+ years of legal experience, including 5+ years of Global Trade experience
  • Defense industry experience
  • Experience interfacing effectively with U.S. government regulators
  • Demonstrated ability to design, deploy, and administer effective trade compliance policies and procedures
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Sound judgment and attention to detail
  • A team player mentality, with ability to execute both strategically and operationally
  • Ability to problem-solve and to work under time-sensitive circumstances
  • Proactive and solution-oriented with a business-friendly mindset
  • Self-motivated and results-oriented with ability to prioritize and make independent decisions

Preferred qualifications:

  • 8+ years of trade-related experience
  • 5+ years of senior management experience
  • In-house experience
