The Office of the NYS Comptroller is responsible for overseeing the financial operations of New York State. They are seeking an Auditor 1 to review and interpret financial and operational data, produce analytical reports, and provide technical support to staff.

Responsibilities

  • Reviewing and interpreting financial and operational data
  • Performing various analysis to identify and interpret key patterns, trends and insights
  • Producing charts, graphs and dashboards, as well as written guidance, methodology and reports to help end users understand complex information and make informed decisions
  • Providing technical support to Division staff
  • Participating in the testing and rollout of audit software upgrades

Skills

  • A bachelor's degree including or supplemented by 24 undergraduate or graduate semester credit hours in accounting and/or auditing for Auditor Trainee 1 (Municipal)
  • A bachelor's degree including or supplemented by 24 undergraduate or graduate credit hours in accounting and/or auditing and one year of professional accounting and/or auditing experience for Auditor Trainee 2 (Municipal)
  • A master's or doctoral degree in accounting, business administration, business management, criminal justice, economics, engineering, finance, mathematics, public administration, public or community health, public policy, political science, or statistics including or supplemented by 24 undergraduate or graduate credit hours in accounting and/or auditing for Auditor Trainee 2 (Municipal)
  • A bachelor's degree including or supplemented by 24 undergraduate or graduate credit hours in accounting and/or auditing and two years of professional accounting for Auditor 1 (Municipal)
  • A master's or doctoral degree in accounting, business administration, business management, criminal justice, economics, engineering, finance, mathematics, public administration, public or community health, public policy, political science, or statistics including or supplemented by 24 undergraduate or graduate credit hours in accounting and/or auditing and one year of professional accounting and/or auditing experience for Auditor 1 (Municipal)
  • You must be currently reachable on the appropriate eligible list for this title, eligible under the 55 b/c program, or eligible to transfer to this title under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law
  • For 70.1 transfer to an Auditor 1 (Municipal), you must have one year of permanent competitive, or 55-b/55-c service in an approved title for transfer allocated to an SG-16 or above
  • For 70.1 transfer to an Auditor Trainee 1, SG-12 or above, for a Trainee 2, SG-14 or above, depending on qualifications
  • If approved for transfer appointment, you must also meet the special requirement of a bachelor's degree including or supplemented by 24 credit hours in accounting, auditing, or taxation
  • Strong work ethic and positive attitude
  • Effectively demonstrates a working knowledge of tools such as (but not limited to) Excel, TeamMate, Arbutus, Monarch, Tableau, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, SharePoint, and Power Automate
  • Data analysis and data visualization experience
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Possess effective oral and written communication skills, including excellent interpersonal skills with staff and customers, both virtually and in-person
  • Perform tasks accurately, within specific time frames and/or under time constraints
  • Capable of working independently, in a team environment and able to properly handle confidential information
