As a Staff Data Engineer for Guest & Host Products, you will be instrumental in shaping the future of Airbnb's data-driven products and services, ensuring that every aspect of the business has access to trustworthy marketplaces data. The Role: Architecting Trustworthy Marketplaces Data The Users, Listings, and Marketplaces Data and AI Team is a dynamic group of machine learning, data, and analytics engineers dedicated to creating innovative data products for Guests, Hosts, Sales, and Finance. As a Staff Data Engineer, you will be part of this team, focusing on defining and realizing the vision for trustworthy Marketplaces data, including pricing and availability data, across the company and its products. Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and productionize batch and real-time data systems to power products for Airbnb Guests and Hosts, as well as business and sales teams.
  • Ensure the quality, performance, and stability of data systems through thoughtful quality systems and monitoring.
  • Optimize and tune data systems powering Airbnb products for maximum efficiency.
  • Develop long-term marketplaces data models for optimal storage and retrieval, meeting critical product and business requirements.
  • Collaborate with product teams to extract data requirements from product specs and develop scalable, flexible systems.
  • Foster strong relationships with partner engineering teams, including backend/client, data science, analytics, and ML.

Your Expertise: What We're Looking For To excel in this role, you should possess a strong background in data engineering, with a focus on building high-performance systems and data models. The ideal candidate will have: Essential Qualifications:

  • 9+ years of relevant industry experience, with a Bachelor's and/or Master's degree in CS/EE, or equivalent experience. Alternatively, 6+ years of experience with a PhD.
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams, including client, backend, ML, analytics, product, and business partners.
  • Deep expertise in modeling data for reporting and analytics.
  • Strong knowledge of relational databases and query authoring (SQL).
  • Proficiency in Java/Scala/Spark, with experience operating on data at the petabyte scale.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience designing and deploying high-performance systems with reliable monitoring and logging practices.
  • Ability to work effectively across team boundaries to establish overarching data architecture and provide guidance to individual teams.

Compensation and Benefits

Airbnb offers a competitive compensation package, including a salary range of $204,000-$259,000 USD, bonus, equity, benefits, and Employee Travel Credits. The company is committed to providing a comprehensive benefits package that supports the well-being and financial security of its employees.
