Responsibilities

The Community Affairs Lead will be responsible for building and maintaining relationships with local leaders, community organizations, NGOs, and residents. This role involves developing and executing community engagement strategies for new and existing sites, and representing OpenAI in public forums, hearings, and community events. Responsibilities include partnering with Economic Development and Environmental leads on incentive compliance, community benefits, and communicating environmental stewardship. The lead will also develop proactive communications to address concerns, highlight benefits, and reduce opposition risk, monitor community sentiment, advise executives on risks and opportunities, and create a scalable community engagement playbook.

Requirements

Candidates must possess 8+ years of experience in community affairs, public engagement, or corporate communications, with a proven track record of engaging diverse community stakeholders for large infrastructure or technology projects. Strong public speaking and facilitation skills are essential, as is the ability to manage sensitive political and reputational issues. Experience integrating community benefits like workforce development, education, and infrastructure support into development strategies is required, along with a collaborative and adaptable approach to working across government, community, and corporate teams.
