The Role

As a Data Engineer in the OAP department, you'll be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining large-scale data systems that support our analytics and reporting needs. You'll work closely with cross-functional teams to identify business requirements, develop data solutions, and implement data engineering best practices. Your expertise will be essential in helping us to:

  • Locate and extract data from various sources to support business analysis, modeling, and project development
  • Clean and curate datasets by identifying new data sources, aggregating perspectives, and creating meaningful hierarchies
  • Collaborate with data analysts and scientists to enhance automated reports and analyses, and provide insights that inform business decisions
  • Leverage emerging technologies and innovative approaches to communicate data and insights that meet business needs
  • Support strategy development and project control engagements across business units and cross-functional teams
  • Train and mentor colleagues in various skills and topics
  • Practice security-aware behaviors in all operational practices and procedures
  • Demonstrate a team-first mindset with the success of our team and business partners as the top priority
  • Be intellectually curious, ask questions, and communicate ideas effectively

What You Need to Succeed

To be successful in this role, you'll need to possess the following qualifications and skills:

  • 3+ years of experience in data engineering, with a strong background in data analysis, modeling, and project development
  • Proficiency in SQL and ETL/ELT patterns, with experience in designing and implementing data pipelines
  • Proficiency in Python, SAS, or other comparable tools and programming languages
  • Ability to troubleshoot reporting database environments and resolve complex technical issues
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work autonomously, managing multiple requests with varying timelines
  • Self-starter with a resilient, solution-minded approach to complex problems, working individually or as part of a team
  • Consistently prioritizes security and protection of self, others, and personal data
  • Embraces diverse perspectives, thinking, and styles
  • Possesses a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent, and is at least 18 years of age with authorization to work in the United States

What Will Give You a Competitive Edge

While the above qualifications are essential, we're looking for candidates who can bring additional skills and experience to the table. If you have:

  • A Bachelor's degree or certificate in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Science, or other quantitative fields
  • Previous experience in the airline industry or a related field
  • Working knowledge of and/or experience with cloud-based solutions (e.g., Azure, AWS, GCP)
