Key Responsibilities

As an Experienced Maintenance Worker - Porter, your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Maintaining the physical building and property grounds, ensuring a clean and safe environment for all users
  • Cleaning floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming, as well as stripping, sealing, and polishing floors as needed
  • Gathering and emptying trash, recycling, and other waste materials
  • Washing all windows both inside and outside twice yearly, as well as cleaning and polishing furniture and fixtures
  • Steam cleaning or shampooing all carpeting, dusting furniture, walls, machines, and equipment
  • Scrubbing and disinfecting bathrooms, urinals, toilet bowls, and other fixtures daily
  • Filling all paper dispensers, soap dispensers, and other essential supplies
  • Reporting any damage to school property to the Director of Childcare
  • Removing snow from sidewalks, driveways, and parking areas during winter months
  • Setting up, arranging, and removing decorations, tables, and chairs to prepare for school functions
  • Requisitioning supplies and equipment needed for building maintenance
  • Being on duty in the building when events are scheduled outside of regular school hours
  • Promoting and supporting the environment of positive behavior support
  • Serving as a role model for students, maintaining values such as integrity, respect for self and all others, dignity, self-control, and respect
  • Attending in-service training sessions, staff meetings, and seminars as needed
  • Performing all other assigned duties as required

Essential Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; some college or vocational training in a related field preferred
  • At least 2 years of experience in maintenance, custodial, or a related field
  • Ability to read and write English fluently
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Physical ability to lift, carry, and move heavy objects, as well as stand for long periods
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality

Preferred Qualifications

While not required, the following qualifications would be an asset:

  • Experience working in a school or educational setting
  • Knowledge of safety protocols and procedures
  • Certification in first aid, CPR, or other related areas
