Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Virtual Observer – Patient Safety Specialist to join our team on a full-time, part-time, or weekend basis. As a Virtual Observer, you will be responsible for remotely monitoring patients requiring continuous observation, working from a centralized unit at the Ft. Thomas Hospital. Your primary responsibility will be to provide observation of patients at risk for falls, confusion, combativeness, or other behaviors, ensuring their safety and well-being while in their hospital room.

Key Responsibilities

As a Virtual Observer – Patient Safety Specialist, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Providing observation of patients at risk for falls, confusion, combativeness, or other behaviors, working to ensure their safety and well-being while in their hospital room.
  • Communicating and redirecting patients to keep them safe until the nursing staff arrives in the event of escalation.
  • Documenting observations as needed in the medical record.
  • Continuously observing patient behavior, mental status, and activities, notifying the bedside team of any changes or unusual occurrences.
  • Demonstrating ability to identify patient behaviors that require intervention and taking appropriate action.
  • Maintaining positive patient communication and being sensitive to the unique needs of patients.
  • Supporting and maintaining a culture of safety and quality, performing safety checks at scheduled times and documenting appropriately.
  • Performing other duties as assigned to assist in the patient treatment effectiveness and ensure the patient is safe.

Essential Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous healthcare experience, preferably in a patient observation or monitoring role.
  • Familiarity with electronic medical records and strong computer proficiency.
  • Basic computer skills, including the ability to navigate electronic medical records and other software applications.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with patients, families, and healthcare staff.
  • Ability to work independently and interdependently, prioritizing tasks and managing multiple responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to accept and adapt to change, with a flexible and positive attitude.
  • Basic knowledge of patient safety principles and practices.

Preferred Qualifications

While not essential, the following qualifications would be beneficial:

  • Previous experience working in a centralized unit or remote monitoring environment.
  • Familiarity with patient observation software and other relevant technologies.
  • Certification in patient safety or a related field.
  • Experience working with patients with complex needs or behaviors.
