About blithequark and the Role

As a Data Engineer at blithequark, you will be an integral part of the Data Engineering team within the Choice Science + Mix (DDSI) association. This team collaborates with various stakeholders across the organization on development and sustainment projects, ad-hoc requests, prototyping, and research initiatives by providing data pipeline and dataset engineering services.

The DDSI Data Engineering (DE) group is seeking a talented Data Specialist to manage the development and sustainment of products for the Media business. Your work will involve a range of data engineering activities, including maintaining and improving data acquisition processes, data validation processes, ETL/ELT data pipelines, and overall process alerting methodologies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engage in various data engineering activities such as data requirements gathering, source-to-target mapping, data validation scripting and review, data visualization, creating and monitoring ETL/ELT data pipelines, designing and executing database schema/tables/views, and delivering datasets as input to science models and visualizations.
  • Utilize a range of technologies including SQL (primarily Snowflake and PostgreSQL), Python, Docker, Gitlab, and Airflow to fulfill job requirements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless data pipeline and dataset engineering services.
  • Develop and maintain automated job schedulers to streamline data processes.
  • Ensure robust understanding of relational database design and functionality.

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 2+ years of experience in ELT/ETL data pipeline development and support.
  • Proven knowledge and skill utilizing Python and SQL (ideally with Snowflake).
  • Experience with developing in a multi-environment (Dev, QA, Prod, etc.) and DEVOP practices for code deployment/development.
  • Strong comprehension of relational database design and functionality.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with large datasets and big data technologies, ideally cloud-based, such as Snowflake, Databricks, or similar.
  • Proficiency in cloud architecture and product offerings, ideally AWS.
  • Experience managing and delivering code using a source control product like GitLab/GitHub.
  • Experience using Docker.
