Job Overview

We're seeking a skilled and enthusiastic English Language Arts Tutor to work with high school students in Chattanooga, TN. As a part-time tutor, you'll be responsible for providing personalized instruction in language arts, reading, writing, and homework preparation. Your goal will be to help students develop a deeper understanding of the subject matter, build their confidence, and achieve academic success.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide one-on-one tutoring sessions to high school students in English Language Arts, focusing on composition, reading fluency, language arts, reading comprehension, and homework preparation.
• Develop and implement customized lesson plans to meet the individual needs of each student.
• Submit session reports to our office and families within 24 hours of each tutoring session.
• Effectively manage your tutoring schedule to ensure that you're meeting the needs of your assigned students.
• Communicate professionally with students, parents, and our office team to address concerns, questions, and requests.
• Monitor student progress and follow up with our office when a student's enrollment package is low on hours.
• Only work with students whose needs align with your expertise and qualifications.

Essential Qualifications

• A minimum of 2 years of experience in the education field, preferably in tutoring or teaching.
• Experience working with high school students and a strong understanding of the subject matter.
• Credentialed tutors and/or graduate degrees are a plus, but not a requirement.
• Basic database and data entry skills.
• Ability to prepare for each tutoring session with a clear lesson plan.
• A personality that is well-suited for working with students of different backgrounds and learning styles.
• Strong administrative, typing, and recording skills.
• Reliable transportation with current car insurance.
• Access to a computer, internet, and a smartphone.

Preferred Qualifications

• Additional experience in specialized education fields, such as special education or English as a second language.
• A teaching certification or advanced degree in English or a related field.
• Experience with test preparation and anxiety strategies.
